The James Hutton Institute (JHI) is an internationally recognised research organisation based in Scotland, dedicated to advancing sustainable land use, agriculture, environmental science and natural resource management.

Through interdisciplinary research, JHI develops innovative solutions that support resilient farming systems, climate action and evidence-based decision-making.

JHI provides the overall scientific, technical and administrative leadership of TRACER, ensuring effective collaboration across the consortium and the successful delivery of the project's objectives.

JHI leads the development of the project's Integrated Conceptual Framework for MRV, which establishes the scientific foundation for the TRACER Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) System.

In addition, JHI leads the Scottish pilot, which focuses on arable farming systems with intensive nitrogen management. The pilot will test and calibrate the TRACER MRV System by evaluating the impact of integrated nitrogen management on nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions.
